Ricochets: When Perception Becomes an Echo of the Present
With Ricochets, the General Consumption Association in Braunschweig presents an exhibition by the Ukrainian-Polish artist Vitalii Shupliak. The presentation opens a multi-layered space of thought between military optics, digital interfaces, mirrors, soap bubbles, and light. What initially appears familiar gets set in motion: An image bounces off, changes direction, and returns with a new meaning.
Images Between Reflection and Irritation
Shupliak examines perception as an active process. Information in his works does not remain neutral, but traverses memories, fears, cultural codes, and individual viewing habits. Video, painting, installation, and performance interweave and create a concentrated atmosphere where the visible and the invisible constantly exchange roles.
Between War, Exile, and Digital Presence
The artist, born in 1993 in Ukraine and living in Berlin, engages with migration, identity, borders, and the transitions between reality and virtuality. His reduced form language meets far-reaching societal questions. In Ricochets, the movement of a signal becomes a symbol for transmission, manipulation, memory, and reaction.
An Exhibition with an International Profile
Vitalii Shupliak studied fine arts in Lviv, Gdańsk, Poznań, and Braunschweig. His works have been exhibited among others in the National Museum in Poznań, the Villa Stuck Museum in Munich, the KINDL in Berlin, and the MOCAK in Kraków. His awards include the Art+Steel Promotion Award, a recognition at MOCAK, as well as awards at the FilmFestSpezial and the European Media Art Festival.
Opening and Duration
The exhibition can be experienced from November 6, 2026, at the General Consumption Association e. V. in Braunschweig and will remain open until December 18, 2026. The event takes place indoors in the art association. Visitors can expect a decelerated art experience with strong visual impulses and space for their own interpretations.
Conclusion: Perception as a Mobile Space
Ricochets connects contemporary art, media reflection, and current societal issues into a dense exhibition experience. Those who want to experience video, installation, and performance as sensual and political forms will find a special occasion for a visit here.
