Spirit_Ride of Feelings: Uncanny Visual Worlds in K2
In the project room K2 of the General Consumption Association Braunschweig, from October 22 to November 1, 2026, painterly uncanny elements, animated spirits, child lostness, and strange figures meet. The exhibition Spirit_Ride of Feelings presents works from the painting and graphic class of Kerstin Drechsel at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig.
An exhibition between fear, imagination, and figure
The starting point of the group exhibition is the so-called amygdala complex: that emotional zone where perception, memory, and fear intertwine. The participating students translate these psychological tensions into painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, and installation spaces.
In the small exhibition space of K2, a concentrated exhibition atmosphere is created. Different artistic positions appear closely together and generate a play of colors, forms, materials, and spatial transitions. The viewing of the works becomes an aesthetic experience between the familiar and the disturbing.
Painting, graphics, and contemporary image finding
Kerstin Drechsel's class works at the intersections of painting and graphics. Traditional methods meet new artistic practices; narrative approaches, figuration, and imaginative visual worlds confront each other. Among others, works by Franziska Dathe, Klara Fischer, Aya Ganor, Toni Gerhardt, Linda Göhrs, Bente Heyer, Selma Kan, Jette Kleindienst, Mathilda Köhler, Fox Kynast, Gisou Rosenthal, Klara Schöll, Sonia Shono, Matthias Sterff, and Luise Tschakert are on display.
The works show how young artists develop their individual visual languages. Figures appear as physical presence, shadows, or internal projections; materials refer to vulnerability, movement, and change. Thus, the exhibition connects art-historical basic forms of painting with an open, contemporary engagement with perception and feeling.
The exhibition space as a shared laboratory
The spatial proximity of the works does not form a mere background but becomes part of the curating process. In the collaboratively developed display, different media and subjects intersect. It is precisely this density that makes it visible how an exhibition emerges from individual artistic positions.
The process is accompanied by Marthe Lallemand, artistic assistant at the HGB Leipzig. The presentation is part of the professionalization program of the General Consumption Association and connects artistic teaching, exhibition practice, and cultural education.
Special dates and art experience
The exhibition can be experienced from October 22 to November 1, 2026, in K2 of the General Consumption Association. The finissage on Sunday, November 1, at 5 PM offers a tour by the students through their own Spirit_Ride. This gives visitors an immediate insight into the creation of the works and the thoughts behind the presented visual worlds.
On Friday, October 30, 2026, the exhibition opens at 2 PM for viewing the works. Admission is free; donations are welcome.
Conclusion: An aesthetic experience between image and feeling
Spirit_Ride of Feelings promises an intense art experience for all who want to discover contemporary painting, graphics, and experimental visual spaces. The exhibition makes inner states visible and transforms the project space into a sensitive laboratory of perception. A visit to K2 opens new perspectives on young art from Leipzig and enriches the cultural experience in Braunschweig.
