Flute Sounds from the Carrot: Discovering, Building, and Playing Music Together

How is a sound actually produced? Why does a recorder sound at many different pitches? In the family workshop "Touching Sounds" at the Municipal Museum of Braunschweig, children explore these questions in a creative way. Together with flutist Prof. Tabea Debus, they discover the world of musical instruments, build edible recorders from carrots, and experience music as an exciting family activity.

Music Becomes Tangible and Audible

The focus is on the recorder. Children aged 8 to 13 playfully explore how air, openings, and vibrations create a sound. The homemade carrot flutes make acoustic basics immediately tangible: Children observe, experiment, listen closely, and discover step by step how an idea becomes a unique sound.

Creative Learning Fun with All Senses

The unusual material evokes wonder and children's laughter. While building, tinkering, and experimenting, practical activity, musical learning experiences, and joint discovery come together. The child-friendly design enhances curiosity, concentration, and confidence in one's own creative power.

A Musical Journey Through the Recorder Family

In addition to practical building, participants get to know the recorder family and hear beautiful music to join in. The workshop is led by Prof. Tabea Debus, flutist at the University of Music, Theatre and Media Hannover. Thus, the workshop combines pedagogically valuable content with immediate musical experience.

Age-Appropriate and Communal

The program is specifically aimed at children aged 8 to 13. An adult companion is welcome and can experience the creative process. The fixed workshop time of three hours creates space for quiet exploration, joint play, and focused experimentation in a protected museum atmosphere.

Conclusion: Families can expect an unusual afternoon full of sound, creativity, and discoveries. Those who want to not just hear music but understand and create it themselves will enjoy quality time at the Municipal Museum of Braunschweig with fun learning and many special sounds. Registration at 0531 470 4521 is recommended.
