Nothing is ever really lost: Young Contemporary Art at the Kunstverein Braunschweig
The Kunstverein Braunschweig presents the exhibition Nothing is ever really lost – Master Students of HBK Braunschweig 2026 from October 17 to November 8, 2026. For the eighth time, the collaboration between Kunstverein Braunschweig and the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig showcases current artistic positions of young graduates.
An exhibition between completion and new beginnings
The exhibition marks the step from a protected academic context into the public sphere. After a successful diploma in Fine Arts, particularly qualified students have the opportunity to develop their own artistic projects independently in the two-semester master's program. At the Kunstverein, these individual perspectives enter into an exciting dialogue with the architecture of the Villa Salve Hospes.
Diversity of contemporary art
The exhibition features works that were created specifically for it, emerged from graduation projects, or were further developed for presentation at the Kunstverein. Painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and other forms of contemporary art combine to create a multifaceted exhibition addressing current issues, personal experiences, and societal realities.
Participants include Johanna Altgaßen, Claudia Bartholomäus, Juan Blanco, Wiebke Fischer, Hannah Güse, Carolin Hegerath, Hendrik Heissenberg, Hye-Hyun Kim, Juri Kim, Torben Laib, Jana Michal, Patrick Neugebauer, Agnes Schmid, Daphne Schüttkemper, Marianna Tyralla, Rubia Rose, and Frederic Mac Vetter. The exhibition is curated by Monja Remmers.
Art observation in a special atmosphere
The exhibition atmosphere of the Kunstverein provides an intense aesthetic experience: spaces, materials, light, and spatial settings become active components of the art observation. The title of the exhibition refers to the aftereffects of memories, images, and actions – to what changes yet continues to be inscribed in the cultural memory.
Artistic talks and mediation
Accompanying the exhibition, several artist talks will take place. On October 22, Claudia Bartholomäus, Torben Laib, Patrick Neugebauer, Rubia Rose, and Marianna Tyralla will discuss. Further discussions with Johanna Altgaßen, Hendrik Heissenberg, Daphne Schüttkemper, Frederic Mac Vetter, as well as Juan Blanco, Hannah Güse, Hye-Hyun Kim, and Jana Michal will follow in November. Public tours will be offered on Sundays at 3 PM and Thursdays at 6 PM, except on public holidays.
On October 25, Carlotta Oppermann will complement the exhibition with the site-specific performance What remains is a handful. The work examines how past uses and actions remain inscribed in the spaces of Villa Salve Hospes and become visible again in a new spatial, material, and acoustic constellation.
Conclusion: Experience contemporary art live
Nothing is ever really lost offers a concentrated art experience with diverse positions from the master's program of HBK Braunschweig. Art enthusiasts encounter a young art scene at the moment of departure and witness how independent contemporary art emerges from research, material, and personal attitude. A visit to the Kunstverein Braunschweig opens new perspectives on artistic education, curatorial practice, and the aesthetic experience in the exhibition space.
