Triumph of the Spirits: An Artistic Laboratory Between Photo, Film, and Perception
The exhibition Triumph of the Spirits in the Geyso20 Gallery presents an artistic experience that deliberately keeps the boundaries between photography, film, and installation open. In collaboration with the HBK Braunschweig, an exhibition space is created that understands itself as a field of research: analog, mobile, poetic, and supported by an intense exhibition atmosphere.
When Art Becomes a Laboratory
The project connects to the growing relationship between HBK Braunschweig and Geyso20 that has developed since the 1990s. Under the direction of Braunschweig artist Thomas Bartels, students and artists from Geyso20 transform the gallery into an analog photo and film laboratory. Different working methods come together, opening a space for artwork contemplation, research, and aesthetic experience.
Analog Media as a Lively Presence
Especially exciting is the thematic closeness to historical yet surprisingly current processes: cyanotype, wonder drum, 8 mm and 16 mm film, painted backgrounds from the photo studio, as well as the imagery of spirit photography enter into a dialogue. The exhibition makes visible how strongly materiality, trace, light, and movement shape perception. This is where its art-historical power lies: It connects media-reflective art with a playful, explorative attitude.
Between Humor, History, and Artistic Curiosity
The reference to the rediscovered Arts incohérents also gives the project a fine historical depth. The audience encounters not only works but also a conceptual space about image production, illusion, and artistic processes. Thus, the exhibition becomes a place of cultural education where art history, experiment, and the present intertwine.
A Visit Worthwhile
Triumph of the Spirits offers an unusual perspective on contemporary artistic practice in Braunschweig. Those interested in photography, film, installation, and experimental exhibition concepts will find an exhibition here with substance, sensuality, and intellectual openness. A visit to the Geyso20 Gallery promises insight, atmosphere, and a strong art experience on site.
