A Ukrainian Sound Journey Between Memory and Present
On Friday, November 6, 2026, Melanka Piroschik invites you to a compelling concert evening at the House of Diversity in Braunschweig. Under the title Ukrainian Songs Between Tradition and Present, the singer, violinist, composer, and arranger connects traditional, ritual, and her own Ukrainian songs with a personal, contemporary interpretation.
When Old Songs Find a New Language
Melanka Piroschik grew up as the child of Ukrainian immigrants, surrounded by the language, songs, and rituals of her ancestors. Her musical work not only preserves these traditions but also opens them up to new perspectives. Between folklore, Eastern European polyphonic singing, Klezmer influences, and modern sound colors, a distinct sound of the Ukrainian diaspora emerges.
Voice, Violin, and Ethereal Sound Colors
The live atmosphere thrives on Piroschik's expressive voice and her virtuosic violin playing. Accompanied by guitar, violin, and Indian Surpeti, an ethereal, dark, yet intense sound landscape develops. The orchestration remains accessible and focused: every line carries meaning, and each change in dynamics and timbre enhances the emotional impact of the songs.
Music as a Bridge to History and Culture
Poetic narratives, ethnomusicological backgrounds, and translations of the song lyrics provide the audience with additional access points. Thus, musical rituals, memories, and stories become audible, transcending geographical boundaries. The concert combines expertise in Ukrainian musical tradition with an immediate stage performance, making cultural transmission an engaging concert experience.
A Distinct Voice of the Ukrainian Diaspora
The musician works solo as well as in various music and theater projects and is notably associated with the duo Moloch & Nadiya. MDR KULTUR described her as one of the important young voices of the Ukrainian diaspora in Germany. Her artistic work spans traditional songs, contemporary arrangements, and cross-genre stage productions.
