Brazilian Sound Colors and Jazz Freedom: Meretrio Celebrates 20 Years in the Red Hall
On Friday, November 6, 2026, Emiliano Sampaio Meretrio brings the musical energy of Brazil to the Red Hall at the castle in Braunschweig. The Brazilian Night "20 Years" combines Afro-Brazilian traditions, jazz, and chamber music aesthetics into a multifaceted concert experience.
Three Musicians, One Boundless Sound
Since 2004, Meretrio has been exploring the possibilities of instrumental music. Emiliano Sampaio on guitar and trombone, Gustavo Boni on bass, and Luis Andre on drums and percussion develop a distinctive sound that blends Brazilian rhythms, lyrical melodies, and improvisational freedom.
Choro, Jazz, and Modern Sound Techniques
The trio's music draws from Afro-Brazilian traditions and Choro, a Brazilian urban musical form that originated in the 19th century. Guitar lines, bouncy bass, precise drumming and percussion, along with trombone colors meet complex arrangements and live looping. This creates a versatile orchestration where synchronization and spontaneous improvisation intertwine.
20 Years of Meretrio and the Eleventh Album
To celebrate the band's anniversary, Meretrio presents its eleventh album. The anniversary production represents two decades of musical collaboration and a continuous search for new connections between Brazilian music, jazz, and chamber music. The album follows a discography that extends from "Óbvio" through "Passagem" to further standalone trio and ensemble projects.
Award-Winning Musical Signature
Meretrio's album "Óbvio" received a four-star review in DownBeat Magazine and was listed as one of the best albums of 2017. The album dedicated to Choro, released in 2021, was nominated for the German Record Critics' Award. These milestones underscore the stylistic depth and compositional quality of the formation.
Live Atmosphere in the Red Hall
In the historical setting of the Red Hall, warm hall acoustics meet the immediate dynamics of a jazz trio. The audience can expect a stage performance with rhythmic pulse, surprising twists, and a sound that fluctuates between danceable movement, focused chamber music, and free jazz improvisation.
Conclusion: The Brazilian Night "20 Years" promises an evening full of rhythm, sound colors, and musical discoveries. Anyone who wants to experience Brazilian tradition, modern jazz, and virtuosic live music should not miss Meretrio on November 6, 2026, in the Red Hall.
