When a cold weighs heavier than giving birth
On Thursday, October 15, 2026, Lord Helmchen in Braunschweig will transform into a stage for a particularly spicy relationship topic: the legendary men's cold. Between pointed dialogues, fine cabaret, and a multi-course dinner, the audience will experience an evening where tissues suddenly become a dramatic prop.
Comedy about the supposedly strong sex
Why do men allegedly suffer more during a cold than women during childbirth? This question is the focus of the stage adaptation of Men's Cold, which is based on the book of the same name by Peter Buchenau. The show combines stand-up elements, acting, and relationship comedy with witty and double-entendre dialogues.
Peter Buchenau embodies the long-suffering patient with great conviction. His stage character treats every sneeze as a medical emergency and every fever as a personal tragedy. The timing is spot on, the interaction thrives on familiar everyday situations, and the audience's reaction is likely to provoke much agreeing laughter, especially among couples.
A laugh experience between appetizer and main course
The comedy dinner show combines stage art with a three-course dinner. During the breaks, food will be served while the next round in the battle of the sexes is being prepared on stage. The menu includes a Lower Saxon wedding soup, optionally schnitzel from pork, chicken, or vegetables, as well as panna cotta with strawberry mousse. Changes to the menu are possible.
This creates a relaxed comedy atmosphere with culinary accompaniment: first the punchline lands, then the appetizer. Anyone who enjoys relationship comedy, cabaret, and a shared dinner gets an evening filled with conversation starters and plenty of opportunities to reassess their own cold experiences.
Entry, stage presence, and subtle jabs
Entry begins between 6:00 PM and 6:45 PM, and the show starts at 7:00 PM. The event runs until about 10:30 PM. The format thrives on clear stage language, pointed timing, and a mix of entertaining, informative, and thought-provoking scenes.
Since 2016, Peter Buchenau has been on stage with his comedy cabaret program Men's Cold. According to available artist information, the show has already been performed more than 800 times. Buchenau is also an author, editor, actor, and comedian. Thus, entertainment experience meets a topic that practically every couple knows from personal experience: one is sick, both suffer – but not always to the same extent.
